Sophie
What a fantastic website! I’m so glad the SI photos are no longer password protected.
Here are some photos of my scars to post. They are all over a year old, except for the tiny red one about 3/4 of the way up my arm. The first two are the upper side of my left arm. The third one is the underside of the same arm, and the fourth one is my wrist. They probably wouldn’t look so bad if I had gotten stitches, but I’d rather die than let my secret out and waste a doctor’s time.
My scars are my special secret. They are something to be protected, hidden, sheltered from critical and devaluing gazes. They’re more private than any other part of my body. They are my small rebellion, a tribute to the emotions I’m not allowed to have. They’re mine and no one can take them away from me.
Update
I quit cutting for over a year, then had a relapse this spring. The fifth to tenth photos are the results of a single cut. The larger close-up (photo number seven) is the same cut after I’ve enlarged it by running the blade over it several times. The eleventh photo is the cut after it’s healed. The twelfth and thirteenth are of my face and arm after cutting. The next three are of my face. In the third-to-last one (the one where I’m sticking my tongue out) you can see a few of the smaller scars on my upper arm.
