The Edge
Copyright, Mandy
She has often stood upon this cliffside,
Looking over across the sea.
The warmth of the sun upon her face,
The feel of the grass beneath her feet.
But this time it is diffent,
This time she doesnt feel the same way.
No more sitting on the edge for hours,
No more carelessly wasting away her day.
Today she came with a mission,
One she can see as her only choice here.
Her heart can take no more agony,
Her eyes cannot shed another tear.
She cautiously leans over the edge,
Wondering what i would feel like to fly.
To spread her wings and take her flight,
To sail with the seagulls across the sky.
She closes her eys and listens to the waves,
As they crash violently against the rocky shore.
The sound reminds her of their memories,
Hitting the rocks, becoming shattered...torn
They make her think of how yesterdays
Are over even though the pain is not.
And how nothing lasts forever,
And she must cherish what she's got.
But her mind cannot accept the fact,
That what they had will be no more.
The friendship that took so many years to build,
Exploded... and walked out the door.
As she takes her very last look around,
She questions why she wasn't strong enough to stay.
For she knew exactly what she had to do,
As she approached the edge that day.
